Nigel and Ed fitting the fuselage skins

Prior to the arrival of the kit itself, Ed and Pete Hicks spent a long time with Nigel planning and converting their garage into a fine workshop, well equipped and lighted, worthy indeed of a product from the Vans Aircraft factory.

The kit arrived on 15th August this year (2000) and with help from a willing group of Bristol Strutters it was safely installed in it's new home.

The builders...

Many hours were spent initially sifting through the boxes of parts and fittings, and poring over the build drawings to ensure a logical assembly sequence was developed.  Work on the project since has been steady and consistent, but more importantly enjoyable!

Drilling rivit holes requires a small (?) person to crawl inside!

The builders are impressed by the high standard of workmanship evident in the kit as it arrived from Vans'.  All the parts are jigged in the factory where necessary, so fitting together is a satisfying process.
Recently, Nigel managed to scoop an in-sequence registration yet with an RV theme:  G-BZRV.  So now the project is no longer just a number!

Holes are drilled from the inside against a wooden block

Since these pictures were taken, the tailplane and fin have been rigged, and all fuselage skins have been drilled and cleko'ed in place prior to inspection and stage sign-off by their inspector.

Watch this page for periodic progress reports.  It seems apparent already that the Quickbuild kit really is quick, so this aeroplane could be rolled out sooner than we thought!
